Maryland Bridges – Rely on wings that cement to the back of your existing adjacent teeth whereas conventional bridges
have crowns (1 or more) on one side or either side of the space with the false tooth attached.
Conventional Bridges – Rely on more tooth preparation and cutting to your natural adjacent teeth but do provide better
retention and a better aesthetic result.
Each type of bridge has its pros and cons which your dentist will discuss in further detail with you at your consultation appointment.
Bridges can be made from either metal, porcelain or a mixture of both depending on the type of bridge required. Porcelain bridges would look very similar to natural teeth as the shade is matched to the existing teeth in the mouth.
Bridges like crowns usually take 2 appointments to make, the first for tooth preparation to the adjacent teeth to the space and impressions of these being taken and sent to the lab. The second appointment is the cementation of the bridge.
